Glengarry District High School (GDHS) students captured the gold medal in the Intermediate Division at the Upper Canada District School Board’s (UCDSB) first-ever VEX Robotics regional competition, held March 4 at North Dundas District High School in Chesterville.

Students from across the UCDSB gathered for the event after spending months designing, building and programming robots to compete in a series of challenges that tested their driving, strategy and coding skills.

Two separate competitions were held during the event. Secondary school students competed in the VEX V5 division, while students in Grades 7 and 8 took part in the VEX IQ division. Each competition featured its own game and playing field, but both required teams to build robots capable of completing tasks during driver-controlled and autonomous matches.

Along with GDHS’s gold in the VEX IQ division, Brockville Collegiate Institute took top honors in the VEX V5 secondary division. Both teams will now represent the UCDSB at the provincial robotics competition in Toronto on May 4 and 5.

Final standings in the Intermediate Division were:
Gold – Glengarry District High School
Silver – St. Lawrence Secondary School
Bronze – Chimo Elementary School.
