Speed cameras recently disappeared from roads in Ontario, but they continue to be used in Québec, including along a section of dangerous highway in Argenteuil.

On Thursday, December 18, the Québec Ministère des transports et de la mobilité durable announced a photo radar unit is being placed along Autoroute 50 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.

Photo radar for the detection of drivers travelling at excessive speed is being carried out westbound between chemin Whinfield Road and chemin Falloon, and eastbound between chemin Kilmar and Route 344.

The transport department says photo radar complement safety measures already in place to improve road safety on Autoroute 50. This section was targeted due to numerous speeding violations and a higher incidence of traffic accidents compared to surrounding areas. In 2026, a median barrier on the two-lane highway will be installed between Route 344 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge and one kilometre east of montée Rochon in Brownsburg-Chatham.
