Ian Fraser Higginson, 74, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, surrounded by his family at the Hawkesbury General Hospital. Ian is predeceased by his parents John Fraser Higginson (2011) and Mary Eleanor Higginson (née Rowbotham) (1996), as well as his brother Thomas (Margaret) (2010) and sister Janet (2007). Ian was a devoted spouse to Jean Kerr; a loving father to Matthew (Suzanne), Carolyn (Heidi), and Meaghan (David); and a proud Poppa to Ellen, Shaun, Lainey, Charlotte, Bennett, and Georgiana. He will be fondly remembered by his brother James (Ruth), and sisters Catherine Barr (Gary), and Eleanor Sides (late Ben), as well as his nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family members. Ian will be remembered for his easy, welcoming laugh, his firm handshake, and his encyclopedic knowledge of agricultural machinery. Ian could, and often did, strike up a genuine conversation with absolutely anyone. At the heart of his work, Ian believed that good business was about people, building relationships, and creating memories that truly last. He poured his whole heart and soul into his business and became an institution in the farm equipment and agricultural world. That distinctive twinkle in his eye and his knowing looks will be deeply missed by all the customers, far and wide, who walked through the doors of Higginson Farm Equipment. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at Hillcrest Funeral Home, 151 Bond Street, Vankleek Hill, Ontario on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A private celebration of life and internment for immediate family will follow, at a later date. We extend our sincere appreciation to Fady and the staff at Pharmasave for their support. A special thank you also goes to the dedicated doctors and nurses at both the Ottawa General Hospital, the Hawkesbury General Hospital (HGH) and his family doctor Dr. MacDonald. We are especially grateful for the compassionate care provided by the caring nurses of C2 North at HGH during Ian’s final days. In lieu of sending flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McLaughlin Cemetery and the HGH Foundation.
