Alfred and Plantagenet is saving more than $400,000 on paving projects in 2025.
On March 4, township council adopted a recommendation from staff to award a contract for asphalt paving to A.L. Blair Construction Limited for $826 967.50. The Blair tender was the lowest of three submitted in a collaborative call for proposals Alfred and Plantagenet participated in with The Nation Municipality and the Township of North Stormont.
Alfred and Plantagenet had allocated $1,242,000 in the 2025 capital budget for asphalt paving. The reduced cost represents a savings of $415,032.50.
In 2025, paving projects are planned on Concession 4 Plantagenet, Lake George Road, Concession 4 Alfred, and Concession 5 Alfred.
Councillor Ian Walker said he wanted the public to be aware of the significantly lower cost for road paving in 2025 and asked for further comments from Director of Infrastructure Jonathan Gendron.
“These are great prices, they fall within the budget,” Gendron said.
He noted that the reduced asphalt cost gives the township additional financial flexibility to cover the cost of adding a durable, six-to-eight-inch layer of gravel to roads to be paved before the asphalt is applied.
