On January 28, North Glengarry council approved the purchase of a new 1-ton pick-up truck for the North Glengarry Fire Department (NGFD). The truck will be used to combat bushfires and tow NGFD’s utility task vehicle and trailer.

As part of 2025 budget discussions, council had approved the purchase of the truck for Station 3 in Maxville, including required upgrades, for the amount of $160,000.

$75,000 will be dedicated to purchasing a red, base model 2024 Chevrolet 3500 HD work truck. The amount left over from the vehicle purchase will be utilized for upgrading lighting and other equipment required for NGFD service needs.

Fire Chief Matthew Roy explained that due to vendors experiencing shortages in fleet pick-ups, it has been difficult to find a model with the required specifications needed by the department. The truck will be purchased from Amherstburg Chevrolet Buick GMC as they were the only vendor with one on hand.

Council approved NGFD’s request for purchase, with Deputy Mayor Carma Williams absent.
