The Québec government has announced $4,742,810 in funding for the construction of the new $7,049,350 fire station in Brownsburg.
Argenteuil Member of the National Assembly Agnès Grondin announced the funding from the Department of Municipal Affairs on July 8.
The new station, which will be located at 541 rue des Érables, will replace the current facility on rue de l’Hôtel de ville, which is no longer structurally sustainable or meets the needs of the fire department. The new 835 square metre/8,988 square foot station will include eight garage bays, a decontamination room with showers, a workshop for the repair and maintenance of protective equipment, administrative premises, and accommodation for staff including a dining room, dormitory, and training room.
“This project represents a fundamental element of the strategic orientation of the town of Brownsburg-Chatham. We are deeply grateful for the collaboration of the member of the legislature (Grondin), and her team, and we consider it a real privilege to be able to count on such partners, committed to the growth of our town and protecting our community,” said Brownsburg-Chatham Mayor Kévin Maurice.
The provincial financial assistance includes an eight per cent increase in the base rate of the project because the main structure will be constructed with wood under the government’s wood construction integration policy. The policy favours the use of wood because of its economic and environmental benefits.
In May, a notice of motion of a regulation was introduced to Brownsburg-Chatham council increasing the expenditure for the new Brownsburg fire station to
$7,049,350. The cost had originally been projected to be $5,058,250 in 2023.
