Yolande Laferrière nearly blew out all 100 candles on Monday, July 8 when her family, friends, and neighbours gathered at Place Mont-Roc in Hawkesbury to celebrate her 100th birthday.

“One day at a time with a big smile,” is how Laferrière said she has lived her long life. She said resilience and patience have also been important skills.

Laferrière and her late husband Martial owned a farm near Sainte-Anne-de Prescott. They sold the farm in 1974 and moved to Hawkesbury. Yolande said her job was working on the farm and raising her family, consisting of Marielle, Michel, Joanne, Lise, and Richard. They were predeceased by Joseph and Francine.

Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre and his wife Johanne Portelance attended Laferrière’s birthday celebration and presented her with certificates of congratulation from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Governor-General of Canada Mary Simon, and the Town of Hawkesbury.
