During the weekend of February 3 and 4, Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers spent a lot of time trying to stop bad driving behaviour.
During the weekend, officers completed a local traffic campaign in hopes of educating the public and ending bad habits.
Officers issued numerous offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), including:
- 37 Offence Notices for Speeding HTA 128
- 8 Offence Notices for Failing to Stop for Stop Sign HTA 136(1)(a)
- 7 Offence Notices for Fail to Slow Down/Move Over for Tow or Emergency Vehicle HTA 159
- 2 Offence Notices for Red Light – Fail to Stop HTA 144(8)
- 1 Offence Notice and Court Date for Stunt Driving HTA 172(1)
Fines for the above-mentioned offences vary, but drivers are reminded that the fine for failing to slow down or move over for an emergency vehicle or tow truck is $490.00 and three demerit points, and that the minimum fine for stunt driving is $2000.00 with a 14-day vehicle impoundment and 30-day drivers’ licence suspension.
