There is an unprecedented need for foster parents in Prescott-Russell, according to Valoris for Children and Adults of Prescott-Russell (Valoris).
“The need is urgent, and we cannot meet it alone,” said Beverly Reitsma, Director of Clinical Services for Valoris. “We are calling on the generosity and community spirit of Prescott-Russell residents to help us find new foster families.”
Since 2024, the number of foster families in the Prescott-Russell region has declined by 45 per cent.
“Every new foster family has the power to change a child’s life,” Reitsma said. According to Reitsma, there is no single profile of a foster family — single individuals, couples, families with or without children, and retirees may all be eligible. What matters most, she said, is the ability to provide a safe, stable, and caring environment.
“Some people may choose to welcome a child into their home,” she said. “While others may help by sharing information or encouraging someone, they know to learn more. Every action can make a real difference.”
Valoris is launching an urgent foster family recruitment campaign. The agency is trying to raise awareness of the essential role foster families play and encourage more people to learn about supporting children and youth in the Prescott-Russell community.
