Québec has a new Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries following the change in government following the October 5 provincial election.
On October 21, Bernard Sévigny was appointed to cabinet by Premier Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon.
Sévigny is both new to cabinet and provincial politics and represents the constituency of Richmond in the legislature. He served as Mayor of Sherbrooke from 2009 to 2017. He has worked as a professor at the Université de Sherbrooke Faculty of Administration and as a journalist for TVA.
Sévigny, a member of the separatist Parti Québecois, is married to former federal Minister of Agriculture Marie-Claude Bibeau who served in former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government. Bibeau was elected Mayor of Sherbrooke in 2025.
