The Richard J. McAlpine Technical Scholarship has been awarded to David Goorbarry Dupuis, a student from Laurentian Regional High School (LRHS).

The scholarship, worth $1,250, was established in 2018 by the McAlpine family in memory of the longtime Dalesville resident, who died in 2017. Since then, the scholarship has been awarded annually to support an LRHS graduate who has enrolled in a trade or technical program.

“My father was always a champion of the trades,” said McAlpine’s son, Michael McAlpine. “He felt that not only is a trade a well-paying and rewarding career path, but it can also be a way of entering many different fields.”

The scholarship trustees were impressed with Goorbarry Dupuis’s work ethic and determination. “David’s application letter highlights his passion and his ability to persevere and adapt to the challenges he’s encountered in his life,” said McAlpine’s daughter Heather McAlpine. “We’re pleased to support him in this next stage of his education.”
