Approximately 75 people turned out on the morning of Sunday, September 20, for Alexandria’s annual Terry Fox Run/Walk, raising $9,188 for cancer research. The event took place at Alexandria’s Island Park, with participants starting and finishing at the Island Park Gazebo.

Families took part in the event, with young children joining older residents for the run and walk on the Glengarry Trails. Some participants ran the route, while others walked, but the pace was secondary to the event’s purpose: raising money in support of cancer research.

Organizer Anne Thévenot confirmed the fundraising total by phoning the fundraising headquarters in Toronto in front of the celebratory crowd.

The Alexandria run is part of the annual Terry Fox Run across Canada, continuing the fundraising legacy of Fox’s Marathon of Hope, which began on April 12, 1980, in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
