The Township of Champlain’s 2026 municipal election features a three-way race for mayor, along with contested council races. The municipality released its list of certified candidates following the close of nominations on Friday, August 21. The election will be held on Monday, October 26.
Incumbent Mayor Normand Riopel is seeking a third term, facing challengers Corina Parisien and Serge Ravary. Riopel has served as mayor since 2018 and previously served as a municipal councillor.
The election will also result in several changes to the current council.
Four incumbents are not running again. They are: Paul Emile Duval of Vankleek Hill, André Roy of L’Orignal, Ginette Clément of Longueuil, and Sarah Bigelow of West Hawkesbury.
Ward 1 – Vankleek Hill features a three-way race between incumbent councillor Peter Barton and challengers Bruce Golden and Martin Kaufman.
Three candidates are competing for the two Ward 2 – L’Orignal seats: incumbent councillor Michel Lalonde and challengers Ophélie Gainville and Benoit Tessier.
Ward 3 – Longueuil is the only council ward without a contested race. Incumbent councillor Paul Burroughs and Claude Laflamme are the only candidates for the two available seats and have both been acclaimed.
Ward 4 – West Hawkesbury has four candidates competing for two seats: incumbent councillor Gérard “Gerry” Miner, Eric Larocque, Greg Ross, and Philippe Timbers.
With the mayoral race and three contested wards, voters will see several new names on the municipal ballot.
