Dear Editor,
I cannot help but agree with your recent editorial on the poor planning on the part of the provincial government and its consequences for the people of Hawkesbury (“Province planned poorly in Hawkesbury,” 8 July 2026). To say that the roads in that town need work is an understatement, and I am glad that you highlighted the provincial government’s role in this mess.
In addition to placing some of the blame on MNR officials, I would like to add that elected officials also need to shoulder some of the responsibility. Premier Ford and his Cabinet ministers are very good when it comes to announcing increased access to booze, eliminating speed cameras, or raising the speed limit (all while claiming to protect Ontarians), but not so good when it comes to much-needed, but politically boring subjects.
Perhaps if they spend less time worrying about private jets for Premier Ford and staying at fancy Toronto hotels, (even when some of them live within commuting distance from home), they could finally get things done for the good people of Hawkesbury.
