Municipal councils in Québec do not take July off. Brownsburg-Chatham Council met on July 7 and a series of decisions were made involving parks and recreation, property, and other municipal services.
Council adopted a regulation authorizing $1.2 million to be spent on the development of the new Parc Heritage Cushing.
Director-General Jean-François Brunet said the new riverfront park will have five kilometres of trails along the Ottawa River in the Cushing area. The public park will be located near the Quartier Marina development. The park will also include water access for recreation, picnic areas, courts for tennis and pickleball, and a children’s play area. Work on developing the new park is to begin in 2027.
Council also awarded the landscape architecture contract for the new park to Montréal-based Apur at a cost of $59,000 plus sales taxes.
Brownsburg-Chatham Council has adopted a regulation to purchase 207 rue Principale in Brownsburg for $750,000. The building is a historic former church which was most recently used as commercial office space. The town sees the property as strategic for downtown development.
A notice of motion and deposit of a regulation was made which, if adopted, would allow up to $722,900 to be spent on the purchase of a new 10-wheel truck and related equipment for the Department of Public Works.
Council has requested that the Québec designate a Councillor to officiate civil marriage ceremonies in the municipality. A resolution was adopted requesting the ministry appoint District 4 Councillor Martine Renaud as the celebrant for civil marriages and unions.
