Questions, concerns, and opposition to the proposed Alto high-speed rail project ended up being the topic most discussed on Thursday, June 9 when Prescott-Russell-Cumberland Member of Parliament Giovanni Mingarelli visited an East Hawkesbury farm.

Mingarelli visited Andrew Barton’s farm and several neighbours also attended to express their concerns about Alto.

Mingarelli said she understands the concerns farmers and landowners have about how the project could impact their properties. She said concerns about possible land expropriation were also discussed during the meeting. Mingarelli said the concerns will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

“I’ll communicate them to Alto and the Minister of Transport,” she said.

Mingarelli added that her office always receives confirmation from Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon’s office and Alto whenever constituent concerns are sent to their offices.

Andrew Barton, who farms with his brother Craig, said the discussion with Mingarelli went really well and appreciated she took the time to visit their farm and meet with them.
