The Town of Hawkesbury’s net debt increased by more than $5.9 million in 2025, according to the official financial statements presented to council on Monday, June 22.

According to the statements prepared by MNP, the 2024 net debt was $10,046,526 and the 2025 amount was $15,940,622.

Accountant Gérald Gauthier of MNP said the town collected $30.3 million in revenue in 2025, but the projected amount had been $32 million. Gauthier said the difference equals the amount of provincial funding the town received for the year.

Councillor Jeanne Charlebois asked Gauthier to give a sense of if the town’s financial health is good.

“Yes, the town is in good health,” he responded.

Gauthier said like many towns, Hawkesbury is facing the challenge of raising taxes while trying to find other sources of revenue.

Treasurer Philippe Timbers concurred that it was a good year, but Hawkesbury is facing the same challenges as other municipalities.
