At around 10:45 a.m. on Monday, June 22, Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec officers intercepted a vehicle for excessive speeding on Autoroute 50 at kilometre 258 in Lachute. The driver was travelling at 160 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometres per hour zone. The 42-year-old man from Lac-des-Loups received a ticket for $1,318 and 14 demerit points for speeding. His driver’s license was suspended for seven days. The vehicle was towed.
The Zone • Zero approach is being implemented on 10 sections of Québec highways that have a high risk of fatal or serious injury collisions. For each identified site, a specific action plan is developed in collaboration with local stakeholders. The goal is to protect lives while reducing the risk of collisions and increasing road users’ sense of safety.
The 2021-2026 Transportation Network Safety Strategy, “Human Life at the Heart of Our Actions,” aims to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury collisions on road and recreational tourism networks. Action plans are being implemented in each of the distinct areas—Partnership, Intervention, Awareness, Technology, and Evaluation by the Sûreté du Québec and its partners, in order to collaborate towards a common goal: making roads, trails, and waterways safer.
