The Renaissance returns to Glengarry on May 30 and 31 in Maxville.

This is the third year for the Glengarry Renaissance Festival. This celebration of music, competitions, and culture associated with the Renaissance includes demonstrations of jousting, armed combat, and various aspects of Renaissance-era fantasy.

Greg Sherman is the organizer of the Glengarry Renaissance Festival, along with several other similar festivals held across Ontario each year. He said new events at this year’s Glengarry Renaissance Festival include a fire aerialist, the Dual Inferno act, and the Duchy of Glengarry.

The Boar’s Head Tavern is always a popular feature of the Glengarry Renaissance Festival. This year, on the evening of Saturday, May 30, the tavern will be transformed into the Fae After Dark fantasy evening with live music and cocktails. There is no cover charge, and all attendees must be 19 or older to enter.

Sherman said more than 3,000 tickets have already been pre-sold for this year’s Glengarry Renaissance Festival.

“It grows every year,” he said.

Sherman said there is a community that develops among renaissance festivalgoers.

“A lot of it has to do with camaraderie really,” he observed.

Renaissance festivalgoers reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. Sherman said it is an immersive experience.

Sherman emphasized that Renaissance festivals are family events and are particularly popular with ages 25 to 45 and those who enjoy fantasy.

“It’s a real fantasy festival.”
