Nominations for the Ontario 2026 municipal elections opened on Friday, May 1, and candidates have begun to file nomination papers in North Glengarry. As of Monday, May 4, the township’s unofficial list includes several candidates seeking council positions.
The Township of North Glengarry’s municipal council is made up of both township-wide and ward-based representatives. Voters across the entire municipality elect the mayor, deputy mayor, and councillor at large. An additional four councillors represent the township’s individual wards of Lochiel, Kenyon, Alexandria, and Maxville and are each elected by residents within their respective communities.
According to the municipality’s published list of nominations received, incumbent Deputy Mayor Carma Williams has filed to seek a return to that position, while Michel Cuerrier has entered the race for councillor-at-large.
At the ward level, Brenda Noble has filed in Ward 1 – Lochiel, and Jeff Manley has filed in Ward 2 – Kenyon.
No candidates had been listed for mayor or for council seats in Ward 3 – Alexandria and Ward 4 – Maxville at the time of publication.
Nominations are open until Friday, August 21, and interested candidates must file completed nomination forms and the required fee with North Glengarry’s Deputy Clerk Jenna Doonan by appointment.
