The spirit of community is on full display as St. John’s Anglican Church and Knox Presbyterian Church in Vankleek Hill continue their ongoing lunch project, a monthly initiative that provides free meals to students at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI).
Each month, the two local churches collaborate by taking turns hosting a free hot dog day for students in an effort aimed at supporting youth and fostering a sense of care within the community. For April, it was St. John’s Anglican Church’s turn to step up, and they went above and beyond the usual offering.
In addition to serving free hot dogs, volunteers also provided pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese, along with a variety of drinks and desserts. The generous spread was warmly received by students, many of whom expressed their appreciation for both the food and the kindness behind it.
The initiative has become a meaningful tradition, offering not just a free meal, but also a reminder to students that their community is invested in their well-being. Acts like these continue to strengthen the connection between local organizations and youth, showing that small gestures can have a big impact.
Students at VCI have made it clear that the effort does not go unnoticed. The continued support from both churches is valued and appreciated, making the St. John’s Lunch Project a highlight for many each month.
