The Township of North Glengarry is looking to bring youth ball hockey to life in the community and is calling on residents to help make it happen. Announced on Friday, April 24, the proposed program is intended to give local youth a chance to stay active, learn new skills, and participate in a fun, inclusive team sport.

The initiative would run as part of the municipality’s broader recreation programming and would be open to a range of ages and skill levels.

Township recreation officials are currently seeking interest from players, as well as volunteers willing to step into roles such as coaches and referees. Community participation will be key to determining how the program is structured and whether it can move forward as a regular seasonal offering.

Ball hockey is already listed among North Glengarry’s recreational activities, alongside other drop-in and organized programs designed to encourage physical activity year-round, but the township is hoping to expand structured youth opportunities in particular.

Residents interested in getting involved are encouraged to reach out through the township’s recreation services to help gauge demand and support the program’s development.

Ages 10-13 would participate in a structured co-ed youth ball hockey league, while the 13+ group would take part in a drop-in co-ed “shiny” ball hockey format designed to be more relaxed, fun, and inclusive.

A one-time $25 fee would be required for a team jersey.

If launched, the program would run on Mondays for a seven-week season from May 25 to July 20. Age groups would be split into two time slots: 6-7 p.m. for ages 10-13, and 7-8 p.m. for ages 13 and older. Games and activities would take place on rink floors at the Alexandria Sports Palace and/or the Maxville Sports Complex, depending on scheduling and availability.
