An accomplished young pianist from Vankleek Hill will be pursuing postsecondary studies at a prestigious institution in Belgium.
Tristan Das Eiras, who is completing Grade 12 at École secondaire publique Le Sommet in Hawkesbury, has been accepted to the Conservatoire royal de Mons in the French-speaking Wallonia part of Belgium.
Das Eiras’ acceptance was announced publicly on Sunday, May 3 by his music teacher ian hepburn, who introduced his performance at one of the Vankleek Hill Music Festival concerts.
“It seems like just yesterday that Tristan came bounding in for his first lesson,” hepburn remarked.
In February 2023, when he was 14, Das Eiras successfully auditioned for a competition organized by the venerable piano manufacturer Steinway and was selected to play at Carnegie Hall in New York. Locally, Das Eiras has frequently performed at Centre culturel Le Chenail in Hawkesbury.
