A traffic stop on Higginson Street in Hawkesbury resulted in arrests and a series of charges for two men.

On Sunday May 3, shortly after 9 pm, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers conducted the stop due to an alleged Highway Traffic Act violation. During the investigation, the officers observed a black backpack containing a black conductive energy weapon. Also located in the backpack was a tear gas cannister, numerous knives and an axe.

Following the investigation, 50-year-old Yan Eric Joseph Pare from Hawkesbury was charged with the following offences:

•        Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

•        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

•        Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

•        Having care or control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

•        Drive motor vehicle, fail to display two plates

•        Improper number plate light

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in L’Orignal on July 29.

43-year-old Ryan Parson from Hawkesbury was charged with the following offences:

•        Unauthorized Possession of Weapon

•        Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

•        Poss of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order – four counts

•        Fail to Comply with Probation Order – three counts

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Monday, May 4, at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.
