Wednesday, April 22 was Earth Day and a group of activists concerned for the environment demonstrated that afternoon in Grenville and Hawkesbury.
At around 5 pm, a procession began on Rue Maple/Route 344 in Grenville and then crossed over the Ottawa River on the Long Sault Bridge to Confederation Park in Hawkesbury.
Demonstrators of all ages carried signs and other objects and shouted slogans in support of environmental causes, including the protection of the Ottawa River and preserving the habitat for eels in the river. One of the objects they carried was indeed meant to resemble a large eel.
