An Ottawa resident has been charged with multiple criminal offences following a traffic stop in The Nation Municipality.

Monday, April 20, 2026, shortly after 10 p.m., officers from Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 417, in the The Nation, following a violation of the Highway Traffic Act.

During the investigation officers seized a replica handgun, a large amount of Canadian currency and multiple cellphones.

Joshua Emmanuel Newkirk, age 27, from Ottawa was charged with the following offenses:

·      Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

·      Disobeying order of court

·      Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose

·      Material benefit from sexual services (living off the avails)

·      Carrying concealed weapon

The accused was held for a bail hearing.
