Fortunately, no one was injured when bricks fell off the front wall of the building home to the Vankleek Hill Food Bank and Thrift Store on Sunday, March 8.
According to spokesperson Jennifer Beauchesne, the bricks tumbled off the front of the building rented by the food bank and thrift store, at 124 Main Street East at around 1 pm on Sunday and landed on the sidewalk below. She said one volunteer was inside the building at the time, but they were not injured. The sidewalk in front of the building was closed off to pedestrians.
The thrift store and food bank were closed on Monday, March 9 while repairs to the brick on the front wall were made. Scaffolding was set up that morning, and workers were getting ready to make the repairs. Beauchesne said food bank clients scheduled to use the facility on Monday were rescheduled for later in the week.
