Seeds and other items and issues associated with gardening and conservation were the focus of the annual Vankleek Hill Seed Swap on Saturday, February 21 held in the Knox Church hall.

“We have a huge gardening community here and a large horticultural society,” said organizer Kierstian Saumure.

Indeed, the Vankleek Hill and District Horticultural Society and Eco East were among the organizations which participated in the seed swap.

Businesses and organizations had seeds and other growing-related items for sale, but there was also a swap table where gardeners could trade seeds. Many gardeners are beginning to get ready for spring by starting plants indoors for eventual outdoor planting. Saumure said the seed swap helps introduce gardeners with suppliers and each other.

“It connects them with community resources,” she remarked.

Saumure added that the seed swap, now in its fourth year, encourages sustainability and community.
