Champlain Township and East Hawkesbury Township are each receiving grants from the Ontario government’s new Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) program which aims to build more inclusive and accessible spaces. Minister for Seniors and Accessibility Raymond Cho announced a total of $2 million in EASE grants on Thursday, February 19 for more than 40 projects across the province.
“Through the EASE Grant, our government is supporting innovative and impactful projects that will help create a more inclusive province for people in every corner of our province,” Cho said in a press release.
Municipalities, not-for-profit organizations and Indigenous governing bodies are receiving up to $60,000 for projects that focus on improving accessibility, including upgrading building entryways, adding ramps and elevators, leveling sidewalks and parking areas. Grant funding can also support adding accessible washrooms and signage, removing barriers and making community spaces more inclusive.
In East Hawkesbury, the township is receiving $57,935 for accessible playground equipment at Augustin Larocque Park in Chute-à-Blondeau. The equipment will include sensory play features and accessible swings. The upgrades will exceed AODA requirements and provide more opportunities for children and seniors.
The Township of Champlain is receiving $48,096 to add accessible, age‑friendly features at L’Orignal Beach, including shaded seating, signage, and pathways, to support inclusive, barrier‑free recreation.
