On Thursday, January 29, Champlain Township Council unanimously approved a temporary tax levy outlining the amount residents are expected to pay by March 27, 2026. The interim levy comes as discussions surrounding the 2026 municipal budget continue.
No adoption date for the finalized 2026 budget has been determined.
Champlain residents are expected to pay 50 per cent of the taxes levied on properties in 2025, either by March 27, 2026, or through pre-authorized monthly payments withdrawn on the 15th of each month.
Late or missed payments are subject to penalty and interest at a rate of 1.25 per cent per month, or 15 per cent per annum.
Once council adopts the final tax levy for the year, the amount paid through the interim levy will be deducted from the final tax bill per property. Notices have already been sent to residents outlining the amounts owed.
