On Friday, January 9, at the Hawkesbury Legion, the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation received a $7,360 grant. The presentation was made by the Hawkesbury Legion, Branch 472, on behalf of the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies’ Auxiliary Charitable Foundation. This financial support will fund the purchase of a TonoPen for HGH’s Emergency Department.
The TonoPen is a small handheld device that quickly measures intraocular pressure without needing to move the patient. Its use will help Emergency medical teams accelerate triage and diagnosis of urgent eye conditions such as acute glaucoma and eye trauma, allowing patients to be directed more rapidly toward appropriate care.
“Thanks to this donation, our emergency teams will have access to an essential diagnostic tool that directly translates into faster care for our patients,” said HGH Foundation Vice Chair Nathalie Ladouceur.
