Prescott-Russell-Cumberland Member of Parliament Giovanna Mingarelli recently shared what some of her activities have been during her first 100 days since being elected as the riding’s representative in the House of Commons.
Mingarelli has met with management at Ivaco Rolling Mills to help protect local steel jobs, made funding announcements of various federal grants to municipal governments, has visited and continues to visit numerous small businesses. Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald has also visited the riding twice to meet with area farmers and operators of agricultural and food or beverage production businesses. The meetings with farmers were held at Gillette Farm in Embrun and the Dignard–Mongeon Farm in Embrun for discussions.
Mingarelli has been placing high priority on food security and safety. She emphasized that Prime Minister Mark Carney has said supply management for the dairy, poultry, and egg industries is not up for discussion during any trade negotiations with the United States.
Challenges in trade negotiations and other aspects of relations between Canada and the current US administration continue.
“I think that Canada is doing a good job at asserting our sovereignty,” she said.
Mingarelli described Canada’s approach as a demonstration of confidence.
