Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG) Counties council unanimously approved a pay increase for itself on Monday, September 15. The updated remuneration will take effect beginning January 1, 2026.

Councillors will see their remuneration rise to $22,014, resulting in an increase of 40.6 per cent, or $6,350. The SDG Warden currently receives $41,951 annually, with remuneration slated to rise to $52,518, an additional $10,566 or 25.2 per cent.

The increase aims to bring SDG councillor pay in line with comparable municipalities, including the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville, and Lanark counties, which also use a similar system of having more than one representative from each municipality serve on county council.

The half-day meeting rate was eliminated, while the annual conference rate rose to $675 per day, up to a maximum of $2,025. The per-meeting allowance remains unchanged at $219.49 per non-council meeting, plus mileage.

Council approved the updated remuneration amounts without further discussion.
