A Hawkesbury church that relies on street parking will now have two spaces for vehicles displaying a disabled parking permit.
On September 8, Hawkesbury town council approved a request from St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Parish for two disabled parking spaces on Bon Pasteur Street near the church building, which is located at the corner of Genevieve and Bon Pasteur streets.
“This addition would be invaluable for our parishioners and as well as visitors with mobility challenges, ensuring they have easier and safer access to our church services and to the many community events held at our hall,” stated parish priest, Father Ikedi Obikaonu in a letter to the town council on behalf of the Parish Finance Council.
The church has no private off-street parking lot. Parishioners and visitors have no option but to park on nearby streets.
