The Government of Ontario is investing $3,832,500 in water infrastructure to support the construction of approximately 3,688 new homes in Hawkesbury. This funding is provided through the Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund, a branch of the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program.

“I am very pleased that the Ministry of Infrastructure is supporting Hawkesbury’s water infrastructure. This project is crucial for our community and will help Hawkesbury grow and prepare for a promising future,” said Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Member of Provincial Parliament Stéphane Sarrazin.

Hawkesbury will use this funding to support the expansion of the filtration system at the water treatment plant.

This project will increase the plant’s capacity by 30 per cent, enabling Hawkesbury to meet the demands of future residential developments. Thanks to this initiative, Hawkesbury will also be better positioned to serve neighbouring municipalities in need of drinking water services,” said Hawkesbury Mayor Robert Lefebvre.

“We are taking a new step in the history of the town, as we now have the necessary infrastructure to support the expansion of Hawkesbury and make it a true growth hub in Eastern Ontario. This project is also part of the town’s ongoing commitment to providing quality services to its residents,” Lefebvre added.

The MHIP is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario and includes historic investments in infrastructure that enable housing and community development. This program helps municipalities provide essential infrastructure, such as roads and water systems, which serve as the foundation for new housing construction across the province.
