On Thursday, September 4, the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) hosted a car wash to raise funds for Nurses Week activities planned for 2026. The fundraiser was organized by the local Nurses Week organizing committee.

A steady stream of vehicles pulled into the employee parking lot off Stevens Street, where firefighters from the Hawkesbury Fire Department joined nurses in washing cars for cash donations throughout the early afternoon.

Funds will go toward events, educational activities, and wellness initiatives during Nurses Week 2026.

The next Nurses Week will take place from Monday, May 11, to Sunday, May 17, 2026, and includes International Nurses Day on May 12.

Nurses Week originated in 1985, when the Canadian Nurses Association approached the federal government to request an annual period drawing attention to nurses. The week encourages the public, policy-makers, and governments to recognize the contributions of nurses to the well-being of Canadians.
