Harrington Township is revitalizing parc Madeleine-Marquis to enhance recreational facilities for residents and visitors alike. The project began in April 2025 and is making substantial progress.

The parc Madeleine-Marquis redevelopment initiative includes the refurbishment of trails and the observation platform, the installation of two park benches and one picnic table, and a new skating chalet housing toilets, storage rooms, and a room to put on skates in the winter.

Residents can enjoy a multi-sport surface usable year-round for hockey, pickleball, skating, and other activities. A children’s playground and other recreational infrastructure are also planned for the site.

Director of Public Works Neil Swail said that the rink and playing surfaces are now ready for residents to enjoy, and encouraged individuals to bring their own equipment. The two pickleball courts, deck hockey area, and half-basketball court were installed by Agora Sport from Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan.

Of the $355,730 project cost, $318,798 (89 per cent) is funded by the Québec Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s fonds régions et ruralité program, with the remaining $36,932 coming from the municipality’s surplus and park funds.

Before the 2025-2026 skating season, work will include installing a new basketball hoop, pétanque and shuffleboard courts, and constructing the skating chalet. Trail maintenance, new park modules, and final landscaping will also be completed.
