We’re at a very interesting time in our history, a country that had always been very friendly, and our closest neighbour has, by the actions of one American person, thrown both our countries into a tailspin. At a population of 440 million, I’m always amazed at the calibre of people our world has chosen to rule.

Our present government has its work cut out for it. I heard our new government say we had to build a new nation. Bill C5 seems to be an all-encompassing notwithstanding clause, sort of saying we’ll pretty well do whatever we want, where we want, when we want. I know we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but that’s still a lot of power for a country that far too often makes hasty decisions without thinking about how we will all be poorly affected down the road.

As far as including Indigenous people in the decisions being made, they have a new term for it, “economic reconciliation”, sort of join us at the destruction of your land through excessive mining, deforestation, pollution, and total habitat destruction, but at least you’ll make a buck out of the deal, just like us.

One hundred and fifty years ago, a deal was also struck; their land was stolen from them, buffalo were brought close to extinction, their children taken, and their women sterilised, pretty much wiping them off the face of the land.
