Vankleek Hill and L’Orignal firefighters responded to a minor fire at a house on Highway 34 at the north end of Vankleek Hill during the afternoon of Tuesday, August 12.
Champlain Township Director of Fire Services Ghislain Pigeon said the call was received at 3:11 pm on Tuesday. Two trucks each from Vankleek Hill and L’Orignal responded.
The firefighters were seen gaining entry to the house by using a chainsaw to cut through a wall. A hose was also being used to extinguish the fire.
Pigeon said the home was lightly damaged. The fire appears to have started in a garbage bin and extended to the porch.
“The owner was able to safely slow down the progress of the fire with a garden hose until the firefighters arrived and proceeded to extinguish the fire and confirm no extension to other areas of the home,” Pigeon said.
There were no injuries due to the fire.
Pigeon also noted that the two pumper trucks at the fire were the new ones recently acquired by Champlain Fire Services which were placed into service this week.
