Have you heard about the new hearing aid clinic in Alexandria?

The Glengarry Hearing Centre officially opened on Tuesday, July 29 at 3 Main Street South. The new clinic is owned and operated by audiologist Tanya Marcoux and André Marcoux. André is originally from Alexandria and previously owned and operated hearing aid clinics in Ottawa and Cornwall. Tanya has been an audiologist for 10 years. André has also served as a professor of audiology at the University of Ottawa.

Glengarry Hearing Centre aims to provide audiology and hearing aid services to area residents.

“Plus, I think our level of services is unique here in town,” André said.

He explained that about 50 per cent of hearing aid clinics are owned by the manufacturers of hearing aids, which means the customer has less selection about the makes and models that are best suited for their hearing needs.

André said their independent ownership and more varied product options make their services more transparent, and distinctive in the field.

“It makes us more unique in Ontario and the country,” he remarked.

Glengarry Hearing Centre only sells hearing aids that Tanya and André believe are the most beneficial for clients.

Addressing hearing loss is not only essential for people in order to maintain proper communication in daily life, but Tanya also noted that there are links between hearing loss and dementia. Diminished hearing can reduce stimulation to the brain because of its effect on understanding and communication.

She said people with hearing loss also often require updates to their hearing aids based on advances in the technology of the devices.

Glengarry Hearing Centre offers complete testing and laboratory facilities for clients right on location at its new Alexandria location.

At the opening ceremony, elected officials expressed appreciation that a new business offering a professional service that is in demand among local residents, has opened in downtown Alexandria.

Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry Member of Parliament Eric Duncan and Glengarry-Prescott-Russell Member of Provincial Parliament Stéphane Sarrazin each extended congratulations to Tanya and André Marcoux.

North Glengarry Deputy Mayor Carma Williams commented how welcome a new, professional business is in the community.

“We’re very proud to have you here on Main Street providing a professional service,” Williams said.

The 3 Main Street South building that is now home to the Glengarry Hearing Centre was extensively renovated both on the interior and exterior with support from the Township of North Glengarry’s Community Improvement Plan.
