The Glengarry Broadsword Academy hosted the Canadian Nationals fencing competition at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26. The tournament included competitions in the single stick and small sword categories. Broadswords are double-edged and have a basket-like object around the handle to protect the hand of the user. Contemporary fencers do not use metal swords, and unlike in ancient Celtic times, both the winners and losers of a match go home alive.
