A house fire, power outage, and road work caused a chaotic afternoon in Grenville on Thursday, July 24.
There was a house fire on rue Raymond. In addition to the Grenville fire department, firefighters from Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Brownsburg-Chatham, and Hawkesbury also assisted at the scene.
Grenville Fire Chief Stéphane Aubry said the call came in at 1:48 pm for the fire. He said the house was completely destroyed. The single occupant of the home has found alternative accommodations. Aubry said the cause of the fire was likely electrical.
The weather was extremely hot on Thursday. Two firefighters experienced heat exhaustion. One was treated in hospital and the other was treated on location. There were no other injuries associated with the fire.
The entire village of Grenville was also without electricity on Thursday afternoon. Aubry said the reason for the power outage was not because of the house fire. Hydro-Québec had restored service by 5 pm.
Much needed repairs to the pavement on Route 344/rue Maple were being made on Thursday, which led to extremely slow traffic through the village due to lane reductions and traffic lights not functioning due to the power outage.
