Many area residents woke up to the smell of smoke during the morning of Monday, June 16. The source was a smoldering fire at the Mironor facility, located on the 2iéme Concession in Brownsburg-Chatham.

Mironor receives wood waste, organic material, food waste, and compostable material for processing and redistribution.

Smoke was visible over the area on Sunday, June 15, but had settled by Monday and was staying closer to the ground. Smoke was heavy in localized areas along Route 148 between Marelan and St-Philippe. The smell of smoke was very noticeable on Monday morning in parts of Brownsburg-Chatham, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Grenville, East Hawkesbury, Hawkesbury, and Vankleek Hill.

Firefighters were at the Mironor site on Monday morning and heavy white smoke was rising from the location of the fire.
