Visitors to Arbor Gallery in the month of June will discover the bold and bright paintings of Gail Vaz-Oxlade on display in the Pemberton Smith Room. “Experiments in Colour” runs from June 5 to 28 and features nearly 20 oil paintings by the St. Eugène resident.

Says the artist of her preferred medium, “I love working in oils. I love the smell. I love the feel of oils on my brush, on my hands. I groove on the experiments that combine colour and texture to evoke a feeling.”

The artist’s name will be familiar to many, as Vaz-Oxlade spent years educating Canadians about money management, in print and on television. She’s the bestselling author of several books, including Debt-Free Forever, and the Gemini Award-winning host of several television programs, among them Til Debt Do U$ Part and Money Moron.

Art is now but another avenue of expression for the multi-talented Vaz-Oxlade. “Sometimes I’ve had to work and rework (and rework) a piece to get it right. My daughter has a calla lily on her bedroom wall that took more than seven tries to get right. Sometimes I finish and I think, ‘How? How did that happen?’ A painting just comes together, almost as if by magic.”

During the same exhibition period as “Experiments in Colour”, the Gallery’s members space – the Arber Room – will feature photographs by Reenie Marx and paintings by Christine Lenoir-Godin. The public can meet with the artists during the two rooms’ finissage on Saturday, June 28, from 1pm to 3pm. Light refreshments will be served.
