Hawkesbury town council made it official on Monday, May 12. There will be a food truck at Confederation Park this summer.

Bob’s Food Fest will have a truck set up at the park through an agreement with the Department of Recreation. The discussion about food trucks had council discussing what other culinary offerings and celebrations the town could possibly offer at parks or other public spaces.

Councillor Julie Séguin said having a food truck festival in Hawkesbury is one of the dreams she has had since being elected to council in 2022.

She said it could be a weekend event with several food trucks at a location which could include various types of food from different ethnic groups. She said it could help include new residents of Hawkesbury from diverse backgrounds.

Councillor Yves Paquette recalled a similar event had happened several years ago at Place des Pionniers.

There was some discussion of whether a food truck festival would negatively affect existing restaurants in town.

Councillor Tony Tsourounakis, who owns a restaurant, was not concerned about that.

“You could have the world’s greatest restaurant, but you can’t eat there everyday. You need to eat somewhere else,” he said.

Tsourounakis said Confederation Park is an important part of the town. He said a food truck festival is a positive idea and is in favour of it.

Mayor Robert Lefebvre remembered a barbecue competition many years ago at Place des Pionniers

Lefebvre said the idea of a food truck festival in Hawkesbury will be considered in the future.
