Two timely weekend concerts featuring all-Canadian music entertained audiences in L’Orignal and Vankleek Hill.

The Accord Choir, under the direction of Linda Crawford, presented Canadian, Eh? Which featured a selection of entirely Canadian written and arranged compositions ranging from folk to popular songs in both English and French. The first concert took place on Friday, May 9 at Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in L’Orignal and the second concert was performed on Sunday, May 11 at Knox Presbyterian Church in Vankleek Hill.

Special performers at the May 9 concert included a performance of variations of Sine Nomine by Nicholas Busch on the pipe organ at Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and a piano performance by Tristan Das Eiras of his own composition Ruisseau de Montigny (Suite Montréalaise).

If there were such a thing as The Great Canadian Songbook, the choral performances by Accord would all be from it. They included Cape Breton classics Song for the Mira by Allister MacGillivray and We Rise Again by Leon Dubinsky, Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers, the Black Fly Song by Wade Hemsworth, and Pussy Willows, Cattails by Gordon Lightfoot.

At the May 11 concert, special performances were given by the VCI Vocal Ensemble, the VCI Concert Band, and the VCI Fiddle Club.
