Easter was celebrated by Christians around the world and right here at home during the past weekend. In the Roman Catholic Church, the Easter Vigil during the evening of Holy Saturday always begins with a fire outside the church and the lighting of the paschal candle, followed by a procession into the church symbolizing the light of Christ and his resurrection. At St. Jude’s Parish in Hawkesbury, the Easter Vigil on Saturday, April 19 began in the churchyard with Father Ikedi Obikaonu lighting the paschal candle held by parishioner Albert Bruley. Parishioners holding candles then proceeded inside the church for the vigil mass.
