At its meeting on Monday, April 14, North Glengarry council approved the replacement of the Maxville sign at the corner of Main Street and Fair Street. The new sign would be installed in collaboration with the Kenyon Agricultural Society (KAS) and the Maxville and District Lion’s Club (MDLC).

The new sign will continue to direct visitors to the fairgrounds, Sports Complex, Glengarry Sports Hall of Fame, and the site of the annual Glengarry Highland Games.

Although $10,000 in previously unspent 2024 capital funding was allocated to the sign project, the joint partnership between the Township, KAS, and MDLC still faced a $5,000 shortfall.

The new vinyl-wrapped sign, to be supplied by Dave’s Reliable Signs in Cornwall, will feature illuminated LED lettering for ‘Maxville’ and a programmable digital screen. The screen will allow for pre-scheduled content during specific times of the year.

Staff said the sign would also serve as a revenue source for North Glengarry, as the digital LED screen can display advertisements from businesses and organizations.

Council unanimously approved contributing the additional $5,000, with Deputy Mayor Carma Williams absent from the vote. The amount will be taken from the Maxville and District Sports Complex operating budget.
