Alfred and Plantagenet township council has adopted a Zoning Bylaw Amendment (ZBA) which brings the construction of a new fire hall in Alfred one step closer.

The ZBA adopted by council on Tuesday, April 8 changes the zoning on land located at 4916 County Road 17 at the west end of Alfred from Highway Commercial (C3) and Development (D), to Institutional (I). The zoning change was necessary to accommodate the future construction of a new Township of Alfred and Plantagenet fire hall for Alfred and a new United Counties of Prescott and Russell paramedic station.

A public meeting regarding the proposed ZBA had been held by Alfred and Plantagenet council on March 4. The land where the new fire hall and paramedic station will be located is already owned by the township.
