At the Monday, March 24 meeting, North Glengarry council awarded a contract to Clearwater Structures Inc. totalling $854,587.00 plus HST for the reconstruction of the Centre Street Bridge in Alexandria.

Council was informed in late 2024 that the Centre Street Bridge would need to be completely replaced as there were no viable patching or repair alternatives available to the township.

Staff explained that the contract amount will likely come in under budget and does not include the associated engineering costs. Funding for the project had been previously allocated as part of the approved capital budget for bridge infrastructure renewal.

Councillor Brian Caddell sought clarification on how traffic would be rerouted during the reconstruction project and was told that the township had a few options available, including detours, scaffolding, or a temporary culvert.

Staff said that during reconstruction, a temporary culvert could be installed, similar to when the Dominion Street Bridge was being reconstructed in 2024.

No further questions or concerns were brought by council while the contract was unanimously approved. Additionally, no start date for reconstruction has been determined.
